This is OLPC Tuva. Tuva was Richard Feynman‘s obsession. And yes, this project and Feynman’s quest are somewhat related. Ralph Leighton is once again the key. I finally got around to putting my thoughts into an experiment. Here is a recording of the experiment using Kongar-ol Ondar’s throat singing at Caltech’s TEDx event, a OLPC XO laptop and the Measure activity.

The very best of luck with your project!
I am an Australian currently teaching in the very remote Aboriginal community of Numbulwar, in Arnhem Land, Northern Territory and have just begun a certificate course in using the XOs in the classroom. English is the 3rd language of all of the aboriginal residents here. My children already enjoy experimenting with the XO.
I’ve read, below, that you wish to document and present Tuvan culture and the heritage of music and singing … I look forward to seeing this manifest within the context of the XO … and I look forward to discovering the possiblity of this type of connection between remote Siberia and remote Australia!
During July and August of 2010 I visited Tuva – and Erzin. (Тывага ынак мен. Мен Тывага чаңгыс катап бардым.) Believe I am one of fewer than 20 Australians to land on Tuvan soil. I am deeply passionate about the culture and have been trying to find a way to physically bring the women of “Tyva Kyzy” to the Northern Territory. As a possible first step to this objective, I’ll be holding an art show in Melbourne, Vicotoria (Australia) next year when I’ll be exhibiting paintings of mine of 5 Xhoomei artists from Tuva, 3 artists from Numbulwar and 1 Australian writer. Interview footage of all of these people will also be on show. Currently in the process of negotiations with a Melbourne University to gain sponsorship to enable two Tuvan women to be present. Three of the people from Numbulwar will more than likely be present. Such a show will celebrate the unique qualities of people from very special places.
Incidentally, I went to Tuva having studied a little of the Tuvan language using the program “Before You Know It” and without any knowledge of the Russian language.
